Led Zeppelin – Thank You (Official Audio)
Inspiration Behind Thank You:
Thank You was conceived out of Robert Plant’s personal love for his wife Maureen Wilson. The concept of this song was spawn from Plant’s poetic experience in Wales. Subsequently, the lyrics blend a spirit of gratitude with Led Zeppelin’s classic sound.
Biblical Application:
Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus, 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18.
Exegesis of Thank You:
If the sun refused to shine
I would still be loving you
When mountains crumble to the sea
There will still be you and me
Robert using a hypothetical situation to express his love for his wife. He refuses to allow anything to separate their love for one another.
Kind a woman, I give you my all
Kind a woman, nothing more
Little drops of rain, whisper of the pain
Tears of love’s lost in the days gone by
How Robert views his wife, a kind woman. Despite the trials they have endured, they had each other to lean on.
My love is strong, with you there is no wrong
Together we shall go until we die, my, my, my
Inspiration’s what you are to me
Inspiration, look ‘n’ see
Robert remembers his wedding vows, living together until death. His wife is his inspiration and joy.
And so, today my world it smiles
Your hand in mine, we walk the miles
Thanks to you, it will be done
For you to me are the only one
Alright, yeah
A reflection of the joy his wife has brought Robert. Holding hands and smiling. Thanking her for all that she means to him.
Happiness, no more be sad
Happiness, I’m glad
The joy that his wife has brought him.
If the sun refused to shine
I would still be loving you
Mountains crumble to the sea
There will still be you and me
Ending the same way this song began.
Final Thoughts:
I wrote of similar Thank You note to my wife Leanne in our Wedding bulletin. I explained what love meant to me in the Bible, writing a short poem of what our relationship meant to me. Unfortunately, in this age of social media, words of encouragement and thanksgiving are often withheld. As a new month starts, be a vessel of thanks by expressing uplifting words to anyone who deserves your praise.
