The Crossover Connection Week 10: Classic Rock of the 1980’s

Following my freshman year of college, I wasn’t satisfied with the Christian music that was playing on local Christian radio stations. The only thing I could find that was decent aired on Saturday nights from 8-11pm. When my parents moved to Ohio, I was directed to a warehouse on the east side of Cleveland. This is where I finally found what I was looking for: a Christian band with that classic sound of rock and roll.

O come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the Rock of our salvation! 2 Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to Him with songs of praise! – Psalm 95:1-2

Due to the lack of money and support for Christian rock music, bands like Legend Seven never got the air time that their music deserved. Perhaps, listening to the attached full album will remind you of groups like Bon Jovi, Cinderella, and Def Leppard. Nonetheless, songs like After the Fall, Carry Me and Don’t Believe It still speak to me. May this weeks featured group speak to your heart and soul as you listen to Legend Seven’s debut album.

Re-Aligning Your Faith

If you have a car long enough, sooner or later it will have to go into the shop for service.  Whether you have your own dealership, mechanic or repair center, this maintenance must be completed if you want your vehicle to last.  Beside regular oils changes and tire rotation, you may need to get your car re-aligned.  Symptoms include drifting to one side, vibrations in your steering wheel or a steering column which shifts to a side despite driving straight.

Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living, Luke 15:13.

Depending upon the roads you travel upon, crumbling pavement and pot holes can speed up this process.  Hitting one bad spot can do severe damage or lead to a blow out.  Unfortunately, these events usually occur at the worst time, resulting in accidents, delays or pricey fixes.  Those who use public transit don’t have these same concerns.  However, anyone who drifts off course, experiences heart break or becomes crooked needs spiritual healing.

There is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God. All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one, Romans 3:11-12.

Looking to the world for answers to life’s problems is like going to a mechanic who doesn’t know your car or don’t know what they are doing.  However, the apostle Paul isn’t afraid to state the obvious, everyone is imperfect.  Thus, everyone needs to get their faith re-aligned, back in accordance with the Bible.  Therefore, don’t try this on your own.  Rather, reach out to others for prayer, support and wisdom until the Holy Spirit helps re-align your life.

When Will It End?

The afflicted, heart-broken and wounded long to see the sun on the other side of dark clouds engulfing them.  In the midst of the storms in life, time seems to stand still, sucking the energy out of desperate souls.  Crying out to the Lord, all these individual’s want to know, “when will it end?”

Despite how bad we think our situation is, reading Psalm 44:9-19 may give you a different perspective.  Although David is glorified as a man after God’s own heart, 1 Samuel 16:7, his life was a mess.  King Saul tried on numerous occasions to kill him, 1 Samuel 19:1-10, David committed adultery and murder in 2 Samuel 11 and was a horrible father, 2 Samuel 13:1-22.  Perhaps, this may explain the suffering David endured in Psalm 44, wanting to know, “when will this end Lord?”

Once you become aware of others who have experienced pain, you don’t feel as alone.  The most beneficial thing I’ve done in the past 2 times is to regularly meet a former co-worker, Spencer Saints for coffee.  This time of accountability and fellowship has served as a vehicle for healing.  Whether we’re complaining, pouring out our hearts or sharing what’s going on, this weekly meeting highlights the biblical principle in Hebrews 10:24-25.  By spurring on one another in the faith, you’ll find yourself spending more time on how you be can a light for Christ and less on questioning God, “when will my trial end?”
