Assurance or Insurance?

The term assurance refers to a positive declaration intended to give confidence.  In a biblical context, an assurance is a promise from God.  Certain passages of the Bible serve as guarantees, a pledge and vow to fulfill the hope for eternal life.  During a private meeting with his disciples, Jesus reveals his plans for the future.  According to the verse below, Jesus left earth following his death to prepare a room in heaven for his followers.  This message of assurance enables modern Christian to live by faith, not by sight.

In My Father’s house are many dwelling places. If it were not so, I would have told you, because I am going there to prepare a place for you, John 14:2.

Meanwhile, insurance is a practice or arrangement by which a company or government agency provides a guarantee of compensation for specified loss, damage, illness, or death in return for set payments.  If you want to drive, you need auto insurance.  Under Obama Care, the uninsured were fined, thereby forcing individuals to obtain health insurance even if they didn’t need or want it.  Insurance companies have convinced many Americans to buy more policies than what they actually need.

These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God [which represents all that Jesus Christ is and does], so that you will know [with settled and absolute knowledge] that you [already] have eternal life, 1 John 5:13.

In preparation for death, attorneys recommend creating a will so that you decide who will receive your remaining assets.  Shrewd insurance agents will offer clients term life insurance, the cheapest yet most beneficial for dying spouses.  However, from a spiritual perspective, the passage above is the only thing you need to know about eternal life.  If you enter into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ before you die, you can know for certain that you will spend eternity in heaven.  This is the only assurance that you need about the afterlife.

The Real Collusion

As congress continues to debate the future of healthcare in America, there is a Texas two step occurring behind the scenes.  The House of Representatives and Senate are revealing the first act in public through a display of anger, concern and tears.  Despite putting on a good show, dirty dancing starts behind closed doors as government leaders are allowing healthcare lobbyists to write legislation which will ensure these companies and executives will make millions of dollars annually.

Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others, Philippians 2:4.

If you don’t believe me, here’s a slice of logic to prove my point.  If Obama Care is so great, why would Democrats and Republicans exempt themselves from this program?  As Jerry Maguire once said, “show me the money.”  Well, if you follow the money, it’s interesting to find that most of these public servants end up millionaires before retiring.  How is this possible?  The dirty little secret is that anyone who is elected receives the best healthcare in the world.  Meanwhile, average citizens are forced to deal with rising premiums, less choices and limited healthcare.

Just as I try to please everyone in everything I do, not seeking my own advantage, but that of many, that they may be saved, 1 Corinthians 10:33.

While the main stream media spend countless programming hours chirping about Russia collusion with the Trump Administration, the real collusion is occurring between lobbyists and members of Congress.  Since this fact conflicts with political talking points, the cameras attention are pointed in a different direction.  Hoping that out of sight, out of mind will squash any attempts to reveal this truth, only time will tell the future of healthcare.  Yet, if Americans sit on their hands without raising a voice, life could soon become like Charlie Gard who was denied emergency medical care, left to die due to a government run healthcare.

Averting Disaster

With all the recent debate about Obama Care, 2016 taught my the importance of possessing good healthcare.  Between my son Daniel’s four day stay in the hospital for Diabetes and my emergency eye surgery, we racked almost 100K in expenses.  If it wasn’t for Amazon’s great benefits, I might be homeless or in the process of filing for bankruptcy.  Sure, the 5,000 deductible set me back a couple of paychecks, but in the end I averted disaster.

While he was still speaking, another messenger came and said, “The fire of God fell from the heavens and burned up the sheep and the servants, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you! – Job 1:16.

Prior to the concept of healthcare, individuals were dependent upon their family, friends and relatives to provide for their needs.  What happened to Job in the Old Testament is like a scene out of a Science Fiction movie.  In a chain of accidents, bizarre events and disaster, Job loses his earthly possessions and his children.  Helpless, this man of God averts spiritual disaster by mourning, praying and worshiping the Lord.

At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship and said: “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised,” Job 1:20-21.

When disaster comes knocking on the door of your life, there are various ways to react.  Anytime a series of events brings bad news, its easy to go negative, bitching and complaining about what has happened.  Yet, Job teaches people a vital lesson about life.  The human body is temporary, bound for the grave.  Therefore, don’t get caught up in all the earthly treasures you possess.  Rather, avert the destruction of your soul by remembering that the Lord gives and takes away.  According to Jesus in Matthew 16:25, life is found by giving it away.

Look Who’s Laughing Now

Until this week, few Americans knew Jonathon Gruber, the architect of Obama Care.  An economist from MIT, Gruber recently admitted to hiding the true cost of Obama Care from the public.  In a video that has gone viral, Gruber jokes, referring to voters as stupid, gleeful he was able to deceive Congress into passing a bill that could bankrupt America.

A win at all costs mentality, lying if necessary, is destroying the character, morality and virtues of this once great nation.  You don’t have to go to church to understand the concept, “you reap what you sow,” Galatians 6:6-7.  Whether you’re a politician, parent or student, you can’t escape the truth as lies will be exposed sooner or later.  Though the dishonest may be laughing now, God will bring justice in the end.

If Jesus is correct, the devil is the father of all lies.  A subtle thought here, a tiny compromise there and before the know it, the seed for deceit has been planted.  Once implanted into an unknowing participant, Lucifer is the one who is laughing now, with the same smirk on his face after Eve gave into temptation while in the Garden.  However, God doesn’t put up with lame excuses, Genesis 3:12-18.  Therefore, watch your steps and tongue, James 1:13-15, to avoid from becoming a pawn of the devil.

Things That Make You Go Hum…

I was looking at a few of my bills from my hospital stay back in February after I broke two ribs, lacerated my liver and partially collapsed by right lung.  The first two were sort of eye opening: $890 for a 3 mile ride to the hospital and $1000 for a 45 minute visit with a specialist.  Perhaps patients need to begin billing doctors when you wait 4 hours in a hallway of the ER or an hour in the waiting room because nurses are running behind.  Maybe this will teach clinics not to double and triple book patients.

Anyway, the last bill was shocking, $18000 for 4 days in the hospital.  It’s not like a had a bottle wine or caviar at each meal.  Although accidents do occur in life, it’s important to have good health insurance to prevent individuals from filing for bankruptcy.  Time will tell if Obama Care will perform as advertised or an entirely new system will be needed to ensure quality healthcare.  As for me, the price of medical emergencies are one of all many things in life that makes me want to go hum…

Please share your own experiences or nightmares that make you want to go hum…

Drifting Off Course

It’s hard to believe that after a first weeks, most of my New Year resolutions have gone up in smoke as I drift off course, not following several of my goals for 2014.  My workout sessions didn’t last a week, eating healthy never got off the ground and others high hopes faded from the enthusiasm of a clean slate.  As I drove to work this morning, my biggest disappointment is the lack of leadership I have displayed in charting out a new course for the future.

Life as many of you know, involves ebbs and flows, highs and lows and periods of coasting where I find myself presently.  Caught in a state of transition, I’m not sure what I should commit to, where to invest my time and how my current financial position will be impacted by Obama Care and an economy propped up by a mirage.  In moment’s like this, true leaders blaze a new trail, see light beyond the darkness and become a rock of faith for their family.

In my current condition, this is impossible.  Fortunately, history reveals a message of optimism for those of you who have drifted off course.  Matthew 19:16-20 shares a story about a young man who on the surface appeared to have his act together.  Jesus, realizing this individual was trying on his own to earn eternal life, throws a curve ball sending the man away sad and causing his own disciples to question their own faith.  However, the point of this encounter is to teach the masses that with God, all things are possible, Matthew 19:25-26.  May this news turn your day and year around!
