Alicia Keys – Good Job (Official Audio)
Inspiration Behind Good Job:
This song was conceived from personal experiences with hard‑working individuals often overlooked in her life. While Alicia had her mother and grandmother in mind, Good Job also served as a tribute to frontline workers during the COVID‑19 pandemic. Sometimes a spoken compliment makes a huge difference in the life of a person struggling internally.
Biblical Application:
Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain, 1 Corinthians 15:58.
Exegesis of Good Job:
[Pre-Chorus]
You’re the engine that makes all things go
And you’re always in disguise, my hero
I see your light in the dark
Smile in my face when we all know it’s hard
There’s no way to ever pay you back
Bless your heart, know I love you for that
Honest and selfless
I don’t know if this helps it, but
Pointing to a specific catalyst, someone who leads by example. Acknowledging the role models her mother and grandfather has been. Working hard behind the scenes. Thanking these family members for their silent leadership.
[Chorus]
Good job
You’re doin’ a good job, a good job
You’re doin’ a good job
Don’t get too down
The world needs you now
Know that you matter, matter, matter, yeah

Six in the morning
And soon as you walk through that door
Everyone needs you again
The world’s out of order
It’s not as sound when you’re not around
All day on your feet, hard to
Keep that energy, I know
When it feel like the end of the road
You don’t let go
You just press forward

Final Thoughts:
I had the same science teacher in junior high and high school. Ken saw someone in me that I certainly did not. Ken mentored me throughout high school and into college. Whenever I was struggling or uncertain about something in life, a group of us would seek counsel from Ken. Ken was like a modern-day apostle Paul, discipling teenagers to become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ. When I got engaged to Leanne, Ken was one of my groomsmen, a way to thank him for making a difference in my life and in this world.
