MILEY CYRUS – THE CLIMB (Lyrics)
Inspiration Behind the Climb:
The Climb was conceived by Jessi Alexander and Jon Mabe. Both writers drew from their experiences in the music industry, recognizing that every project contains obstacles in the way. While playing her guitar one day, the melody to the Climb came to Jessi. The lyrics was inspired by feeling like an underdog in the music industry. Words like “it’s not a race” point to a steady climb to the top.
Biblical Application:
Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. 29 He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. 30 Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; 31 but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint, Isaiah 40:28-31.
Exegesis of the Climb:
I can almost see it
That dream I’m dreaming
But there’s a voice inside my head saying
You’ll never reach it
Doubt and unbelief are some of the greatest obstacles to fulfilling dreams you have in life.
Every step I’m taking
Every move I make feels
Lost with no direction
My faith is shaking
Sometimes a lack of direction or progress makes you second guess yourself.
But I, I gotta keep trying
Gotta keep my head held high
Reaching your dreams involves a spirit from within to press on.
There’s always gonna be another mountain
I’m always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be an uphill battle
Sometimes I’m gonna have to lose
Ain’t about how fast I get there
Ain’t about what’s waiting on the other side
It’s the climb
Life is a marathon, not a sprint. You have to pace yourself, make necessary sacrifices and wait until dreams come true.
The struggles I’m facing
The chances I’m taking
Sometimes might knock me down, but
No, I’m not breaking
Not every song is a success. Failure provides opportunities for personal growth.
I may not know it
But these are the moments, that
I’m gonna remember most, yeah
Just gotta keep going
Certain rejections in life make you more determined to work harder than ever before.
And I, I gotta be strong
Just keep pushing on, ’cause
Don’t give up. Rather, keep pressing on.
There’s always gonna be another mountain
I’m always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be an uphill battle
Sometimes I’m gonna have to lose
Ain’t about how fast I get there
Ain’t about what’s waiting on the other side
It’s the climb
After reaching one goal, there will be other barriers in life to slow your progress down. You’re not always going to be successful. It doesn’t matter how long it takes as long as you reach your dreams.
Yeah
There’s always gonna be another mountain
I’m always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be an uphill battle
Sometimes you’re gonna have to lose
Ain’t about how fast I get there
Ain’t about what’s waiting on the other side
It’s the climb
Yeah, yeah
This repetitive chorus reinforces that the journey to success is a process that takes time.
Keep on moving, keep climbing
Keep the faith, baby
It’s all about, it’s all about the climb
Keep your faith, keep your faith
Whoa
Keep your faith as you climb. As C.S. Lewis once said, success is the process of arriving.
Final Thoughts:
From a writer’s perspective I’ve dabbled in many different disciplines. I started as a poet, tried songwriting, reached over into short stories and graduated toward screen writing. While I have failed more than anything, I’m still a work in progress as I start my own climb. Where I end up, only God knows, but I press on to express the ideas that God puts on my heart.
