Biblical Connection:

Danny Roman is framed for the murder of his former partner. Subsequently, Danny holds 4 former co-workers who he thinks are behind this conspiracy hostage. Seeking to find the truth about who is embezzling money from his department’s pension fund, Danny begins to ascertain who is lying and who is telling the truth. Danny relies on body language to uncover this mystery.

A serpent enters the Bible in the third chapter of the first book, Genesis 3:1-5. This being is believed to be the fallen angel Lucifer, aka the Devil. This serpent questions God, planting a seed of doubt inside the minds of Adam and Eve. This is the seed of the serpent whom Jesus refers to as the father of all lies. This spiritual figure is alive and well today, working in the lives of corrupt politicians and willing members of the media who air and prop up their lies.

Closing Song:

While most families with children are preparing for Halloween, watch out for the father of all lies. Don’t let the lie of fear and seeds of doubt cause another fall from grace like original sin in the Garden of Eden.

Biblical Connection:

Today’s scene reminds me of a sermon that I heard in college. Sin gradually weakens Christians, making you more susceptible to future temptations. Subsequently, as this man is in the process of making a deal with the Devil, he begins to get cold feet. When you sell your soul to the Devil to fulfill your earthly dreams, the cost is much more than you ever anticipated.

The image that Peter paints in verse 8 reminds me of National Geographic programs sponsored by Mutual of Omaha that I watched as a child. Lions would separate weak and young animals from the pack before going in for the kill. This passage serves as a warning to all human beings that the Devil is always on the prowl. Perhaps, Peter is likely speaking from personal experience as well.

Closing Song:

While the blood and gore of Halloween is Hollywood driven, there is a real-life ongoing holy war taking place in the spiritual dimension. If you allow yourself to be lulled into a false sense of security, you won’t be prepared the next time the Devil is on the prowl in your spheres of influence.

Biblical Connection:

 A group of Christian missionaries in Ecuador seek to fulfill the Great Commission in Acts 1:8. Hoping to bring the gospel to a war-torn tribe, 5 men try to communicate with this lost civilization. Unfortunately, the Waorani think these men are enemies as Mincayani and his tribe attack and kill all members of this missionary group. This is what happens when you’re carried away by evil.

The prophet Ezekiel receives a vision from God in today’s Bible passage. Ezekiel compares the current King of Tyre to the fall of Lucifer in heaven. Apparently, the King of Tyre displayed traits associated with Satan. Whenever a leader becomes full of pride, self-reliance tends to follow. As soon as a trust in God is abandoned, individuals be vulnerable to being carried away by evil.

Closing Song:

To overcome evil, it’s essential to become led by the Holy Spirit, Galatians 5:25. Submit to God, resist the Devil and evil sensations will flee, James 4:7.

Biblical Connection:

Genesis 3:6 reveals that Adam was right there with Eve when she picked the fig and ate from the Tree of Knowledge. The phrase that Moses uses in conveying this is that Adam was with his wife while the serpent was planting seeds of doubt into her mind. Adam could have intervened at any time to stop this conversation, but his own curiosity allowed the serpent to continue to speak.

Although Moses details the blame game between Adam and Eve following their original sin, the apostle Paul blames Adam for their act of sin. God gave Adam authority over the Garden of Eden and went over the ground rules, not to eat from the Tree of Knowledge. Adam lost this authority which enabled Lucifer to become the ruler of the air over the earth in Ephesus 2:2. Meanwhile, the Devil offers Jesus back this authority in Matthew 4:8-10 in exchange for His worship.

Closing Song:

John 10:10 highlights how the Devil seeks to steal, kill and destroy your relationship with God. While the spirit of Halloween may distract you from what is important in life, watch and pray so that you don’t fall prey to sin like Adam and Eve.

Biblical Connection:

Sometimes the biggest opportunity of your working career isn’t worth the toll it will take on your family. When Florida attorney Kevin Lomax is offered a position at a high-end New York City law firm, he’s looking for his next challenge. Yet, at the end of the rainbow, remaining undefeated in the court room, Kevin finds out that his boss is the Devil.

The apostle Paul writes to a first century church in Ephesus. Paul shares the obstacles that new converts to Christianity endure upon entering into a personal relationship with Jesus, Romans 10:9-11. After being kicked out of heaven, the fallen angel Lucifer has retained his spiritual abilities. Subsequently, the Devil continues to be the ruler of the air over the earth, planting seeds of doubt into the minds of individuals with addiction, bad habits and cravings to kill any dreams of change.

Closing Song:

In a world falling apart, the fictional Superman isn’t coming. Yet, when you cry out to the God of Creation, angels will be ushered by Jesus to come to your rescue as you continue to battle the ruler of the air.

Bible Verse of the Day:

“To the angel of the church in Thyatira write: These are the words of the Son of God, whose eyes are like blazing fire and whose feet are like burnished bronze. ¹⁹ I know your deeds, your love and faith, your service and perseverance, and that you are now doing more than you did at first. ²⁰ Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophet. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols. ²¹ I have given her time to repent of her immorality, but she is unwilling. ²² So I will cast her on a bed of suffering, and I will make those who commit adultery with her suffer intensely, unless they repent of her ways. ²³ I will strike her children dead. Biblical Connection:

When Americans hear the word witchcraft, Hollywood interpretations like Be Witched, Charm, or the Wizard of Oz may come to mind. Yet, the biblical word for witchcraft is derived from the Greek word pharmakeia. From my days in seminary, this is where the English word for sorcery comes from. Meanwhile, the Jezebel spirit is a demonic spirit fueled by control, legalism and power.

In John’s message to the Church at Thyatira, he begins with the positive, their faith in action. Nonetheless, Christian members of this church practiced syncretism, the blending of the Bible with cultural and societal beliefs. This tolerance of unbiblical practices opened the door for the spirit of Jezebel to enter the Church at Thyatira. When I studied the 10 characteristics of the spirit of Jezebel, these demonic influences are prevalent in America and throughout the world.

Closing Song:

In the absence of spiritual leadership, the spirit of Jezebel thrives. When threatened by Queen Jezebel in 1 Kings 19:1-4 even the mighty prophet Elijah wanted to die. This is the power of demonic influences that can overwhelm formerly strong spiritual souls. Be on guard as the spirit of Jezebel has exploded in America, feeding on political hate speech and the demonization of any opponents who stand up against this demonic power.

Bible Verse of the Day:

Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. ² This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, ³ but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world. ⁴ You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. ⁵ They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them. ⁶ We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit^[a] of truth and the spirit of falsehood, 1 John 4:1-6.

Biblical Connection:

The expression “don’t drink the Kolade” originated from Cult Leader Jim Jones who gave cyanide laced cups of Kolade to his followers in 1978. The Joe Rogan guest provides a historical perspective of how and why Jim Jones developed a large following. On the surface, Jim Jones preceded Martin Luther King Junior Civil Rights Movement, but his false teaching led to the deaths of 900 people.

The longer His presence was removed from earth, the more teachers not familiar with Jesus began to describe unbiblical accounts of His life. By the end of the first century, the last living disciple of Jesus corrected this false teaching. When one lie is not refuted, people begin to believe this teaching as truth. This is why you must be diligent by watching out for spirits of deception.

Closing Song:

Relying on AI, the Internet or social media to shape your biblical knowledge is dangerous. Rather, follow the advice of the apostle Paul in 1 Thessalonians 5:19-22 by testing everything you hear, read and see with the Bible. Cling to what is true to avoid falling prey to the next Jim Jones.

Biblical Connection:

Every human being possesses at least one weak spot, something they can’t say no to. This bad habit may be alcohol, caffeine, food, nicotine, opioids, pornography, sex or shopping. In the film Gone in 60 Seconds, boosting cars is their addiction. Subsequently, as Memphis Raines attempts to recruit former members of his team, Sway initially rejects this offer to return to her former life.

In the original King James Version of the Bible, Moses uses the word lust in place of craved for food. Whenever you are living in poverty, a good meal is something hard to come by. As Israel is wandering in the wilderness for 2 years, they become broken, lusting for more than manna and water. This lustful craving led to a plague where Israel buried many family members.

Closing Song:

While human beings are trying to sleep, demons of lust are working overtime. While these spiritual entities vary, female demon’s called succubus prey and men while incubus, male demons of lust, tempt woman. This is why it’s essential for Christians to take their thoughts captive to avoid experiencing the horrors of a real-life Halloween.
