Mr. Mister – Broken Wings (Official Video)
Inspiration Behind Broken Wings:
The title of this Mr. Mister song comes from Kahlil Gilbran’s 1912 novel The Broken Wings. The book tells the story of a doomed love facing society. between passion and constraint. The song Broken Wings uses metaphors from this novel as well as the band’s personal struggles at this time to craft this in 20 minutes. This collaboration between Frontman Ricard Page, lyricist John Lang and guitarist Steve George prepared the way for Broken Wings to become an instant classic.
Biblical Application:
Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits—3 who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases,4 who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, 5 who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s, Psalm 103:2-5.

Baby, don’t understand
Why we can’t just hold on
To each other’s hands
An attempt to salvage a relationship, asking why can’t we hold hands in public.
This time might be the last, I fear
Unless I make it all too clear
I need you so, oh-oh, oh
A man feels like he is losing this relationship, trying to intervene to save it.
Take these broken wings
And learn to fly again
Learn to live so free
When we hear the voices sing
The book of love will open up and let us in
Take these broken wings

That you’re half of the flesh
And blood that makes me whole
I need you so

Final Thoughts:
Prior to the 1600’s, once a household item was broken, it could not be fixed unless it was made out of metal or wood. However, the invention of glue helped repair items that were once thrown away. The invention of Duct Tape in 1942 added new life to cherished household items, even if this wasn’t perfectly glued or taped. Brokenness is an aspect of life that everyone can relate to, especially during mental health awareness month. The Bible illustrates human’s flaws in Romans 3:9-12. Yet, songs like Broken Wings provide a glimpse of hope for the broken-hearted. May the lyrics encourage you like they have blessed me for the past 30 plus years.
