Unless you believe Al Gore, the internet began as a series of memos written by J.C.R. Licklider in 1962 while at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Conceived as a Galactic Network, Licklider was a visionary seeing a day when computers would be able to interconnect, bridging the gap of distance. This dream became a reality in September of 1969 when Frank Heart, head of Bolt, Beranek and Newman laid the groundwork for the first host computer connected at the University of California in Los Angeles.

This technology opened the door for social networking to begin. Three Harvard University students led by Mark Zuckerberg served as pioneers in 2004 after launching Facebook. The 2010 the film Social Network documents the conditions which led to this modern invention. Subsequently, whether you are using a laptop, phone or tablet, you can share posts, comments or click like for any colorful image or interesting slant from wherever you are. However, little did these three men realize that their creation has become an outlet for harboring hatred.
Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving, Ephesians 5:4.
Today, additional sites like Twitter have stoked a feeding frenzy of negativity. Although there are an occasional examples of individuals getting banned, people tend to express opinions formerly reserved for their thought life. With no one to face, people are becoming bolder by the minute, engaging in profanity, malice and slander. Like anything in life, what was designed for good has been corrupted, void of love. As advances continue to be made, may the Holy Spirit direct, guide and move souls to express love and not hate.
