Video of the Day: Clip from the 1960 movie “Pollyanna”
Bible Verse of the Day:
When Mordecai left the king’s presence, he was wearing royal garments of blue and white, a large crown of gold and a purple robe of fine linen. And the city of Susa held a joyous celebration. 16 For the Jews it was a time of happiness and joy, gladness and honor. 17 In every province and in every city to which the edict of the king came, there was joy and gladness among the Jews, with feasting and celebrating. And many people of other nationalities became Jews because fear of the Jews had seized them, Esther 8:15-17.
Biblical Connection:
A young girl named Pollyanna comes to an embittered town and confronts its attitude. Pollyanna arrives following the death of her parents, sent to live with her wealthy maternal aunt. As all the maid and servants complain about Sunday, Pollyanna tries to put a positive spin on life. Pollyanna plays the glad game that her minister father introduced her to, looking for a reason to be glad.
As Haman sought to kill Mordecai because he was a Jew, the king discovered a plot Mordecai uncovered to save his life. Subsequently, Mordecai is honored and rewarded for loyalty to King Xerxes. Thanks to Queen Esther’s perseverance and King Xerxes’ edict, the city of Susa held a celebration for the Jews. This led to a period of joy and gladness for the Jews.
Closing Song:
Sometimes you have to face ordeals like Esther and Mordecai before gladness and joy is experienced. Yet, when your mind is focused on gladness like Pollyanna, there is always something that you can be thankful for in life.
