Staying Cool When the Heat is On

Before any volcanic eruption occurs, there are subtle signs.  Tremors, increased steam and ground swells are some of the warning signals scientists have uncovered to prepare nearby residents.  As for human beings, increased tension, a red complexion and short temper are precursors to someone blowing their top.

Regardless of how disciplined someone may be, its hard to stay cool when the heat is on.  In the days of my youth, there were numerous occasions when I lost my composure.  In Mere Christianity, C.S. Lewis talks about Cardinal Virtues.  One of these 4 is known as temperance, going the right distance and no further.  While this trait is available to everyone, you can’t stay cool when the heat is on all by yourself.

According to 2 Timothy 1:7, the Holy Spirit is the piece of the puzzle  individuals are missing.  When push comes to shove in the form of temptation, a spirit of anger lurks in the air.  Don’t fool yourself with over confidence or you too may fall, 1 Corinthians 10:12.  Place your trust in the words of Proverbs 3:5-6; then you too can stay cool when the heat is on.

Not A Clue?

I’m not sure who has a worse track record: global warming predictions or the daily weather forecasters?  According to Al Gore, you know the guy who created the internet, polar bears were suppose to be near extinction due to the last of the polar ice caps melting by now.  Meanwhile, meteorologists have become so dependent on technology and weather models, they’ve overlooked common sense and God given instincts like Bill Paxton’s character in the 1996 film Twister.  I wish someone in either of these 2 groups would just be honest, professing to the world, “I don’t have a clue?”

Based upon actual scientific data, global cooling and warming is influenced by major volcanic eruptions or lack there of.  Temperature patterns going back to the early 1800’s reveal the world wide temperatures decline the year following a major eruption, decreasing between 1-4 degrees fahrenheit on average.  A modern example of this occurred following Mount Saint Helen’s explosion on May 18, 1980 as scientists began to suggest the world was heading toward its next ice age.  In the year’s following little or no volcanic activity, ocean temperatures often rise creating an El Nino affect.  However, computers can only make an educated guess on the future, often not having a clue to God’s daily forecast.

Having confidence in an ability, skill or talent is not a bad thing.  However, there is a growing trend in the media to avoid showing weakness unless you are a politician who has just been caught in a scandal.  Then, consultants will encourage individuals to go an Oprah, spill their guts and shed a tear or two to show the American people your sorry.  Yes, its important for college professors, guest analysts and professionals to be well informed, but what’s wrong with a little humility.  I want real people who aren’t afraid to proclaim “I don’t know,” instead of fake people hiding behind a facade.  Feel free to express your opinion or stand out up your soap box for a few minutes.

Who is Telling the Truth?

One of my college textbooks referred to the Bible as a book of fables, stories which sound good, but aren’t real.  Over the course of the semester, I discovered that our Sociology book used the same timelines as referenced in the Bible.  Upon reading this information, I began to wonder, who is telling the truth?

As I studied Genesis 19 this morning, I wanted to know the origin of sodomy.  Based upon my research, credit is given to the city of Sodom, whose blatant sexual perversions in Genesis 19:4-9 coined the term which applies to modern sodomy laws.  If the Bible is not to be taken serious, why then have most of the nations of the world incorporated biblical principles into their societal rules and regulations?

Sure, comprehending a world wide flood is difficult to grasp.  However, other events such as the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah can be supported by science.  According to Genesis 19:27-28, this catastrophe sounds similar to a pyroclastic flow, a side effect of a major volcanic eruption.  Archeologist have found bodies like Lot’s wife, mummified by the hot ashes and gas.  When you apply the 1 Thessalonians 5:21-22 principle, regardless of the topic or subject, the Holy Spirit can reveal to you like John 4:23-24, who is telling the truth.

A Distorted History

I remember listening to my Sociology professor in college refer to the Bible as a series of fairy tales and folklore during the weekly lectures I was expected to attend.  However, as I read our main textbook for class I began to see how this Sociology book used the historical timelines the Bible provided.  Either my professor was right and the Bible gives scholars a projected estimate of history?  Or my professor was wrong, trying to cover up the historical accuracy of the Word of God recorded by Old Testament authors?

Searching to uncover the truth, I spent several years on my own reading and researching books.  The remainder of this blog includes a distorted history of the earth, not taught in our schools.  The creation recount in Genesis 1 supports the historical findings of Pangaea, a one continent earth.  Genesis 2:5-6 supports the Environmental Protection Agency’s findings of world wide water aquifers underneath the earth’s surface.  Genesis 7:11 reveals the origins of how and why Pangaea has been torn apart into 7 new continents thanks to tectonic plates, lowering half of the earth into the seas and raising the other portion to create mountain ranges like the Himalayas.

In fact, when the springs of the earth burst forth in Genesis 7:11, this volcanic eruption allowed the springs underneath the surface to rise into the air like a series of Old Faithful geysers.  This explosion made room for the flood waters which followed in Genesis 7:12 to eventually recede into these vacated areas allowing the earth’s soil to perk.  This was necessary or else most of the earth’s land would be filled with swamps.  If almost every civilizations writes about a massive flood; its likely the Bible is telling the truth.

Unfortunately, many other biblical findings have been left out of the media, probably on purpose.  Egyptian chariot’s have been discovered on the bottom of the Red Sea by a Christian archeologist.  A large image of an ark like figure has been seen on top of a mountain range in Turkey.  Skeleton remains from a woman 8,000 years ago, appear to suggest the curse of Eve in Genesis 3:16 is a continual shrinking with each generation of woman’s hips.  In addition, most snakes when picked up reveal holes, where feet once existed.  I could go on, but the pieces of historical evidence supporting the Bible is endless.  Book likes The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel and The Bible as History are great resources that I suggest.  Don’t believe me, test everything and you will find the truth, 1 Thessalonians 5:21-22.
