S.A.N.S. Episode 305: Peace in the Storm

One of the first Christian songs I heard on the topic of enduring storms and trials in life is The Anchor Holds by Ray Boltz. A more recent song by Casting Crowns, Praise You in the Storm contains a similar message. Your mindset and perspective on spiritual storms in life will dictate how you react. If you’re not thinking of these unforeseen events as a spiritual refining process, you’ll overreact and won’t experience peace in this storm.

I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace and confidence. In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer [take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted]! For I have overcome the world. [I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you, John 16:33.

Today’s featured song by Ore Clarke is based upon the ideal response to spiritual storms in life. The lyrics of Ore’s song point to a spiritual mindset of mature Christians. As you lean on Jesus for strength in difficult and emotionally draining situations, you will find peace in the storm you are currently going through. My prayer for you toward is that by listening to the message of today’s song, anxiety and worry will be replaced by the peace of Christ.

Praising God in the Storms of Life

Saying God works in mysterious ways is cliche, yet God talked directly to me this morning through a song.  Since I was tired of the CD in my car, I decided to put one of my Casting Crown CD’s for a change of pace.  When song 2 began, I almost stopped the car as if the song, Praise You in the Storm was a message sent from heaven.

In Acts 16, Paul and Silas get thrown into a jail in Philippi after casting a demon out of a slave girl.  This demon allowed this girl to foretell the future, making this slave lots of money for her masters.  With the demon gone, their source of income also disappeared, leading them to make a complaint, having Paul arrested along with Silas.  Yet, Paul saw the greater picture, knowing the people in person were needy, Matthew 9:9-12.  Therefore, instead of complaining Paul and Silas began to praise the Lord in their storm, a prison cell.

Knowing what to do in a situation and actually doing it are 2 different things.  I know I need to praise God while in the storm of unemployment, yet my impatience is leading me in an entirely different direction.  I need to have the faith like Peter, who when Jesus appeared as a ghost, walking on top of the sea, Peter challenged Jesus to let him walk too if it is you Lord.  As the clouds continue to darken, with thunder grumbling in the distance, I need to pray Paul’s words in 2 Corinthians 12:7-10.  In my weakness Lord, let Christ be strong so I can begin to praise you in this storm!
