Every calendar year Easter fluctuates from March to April. Likewise, the organizers of the Masters in cooperation with the P.G.A. Tour try to have their final round on Easter Sunday. What most people don’t realize is that several P.G.A. Tour events have sunrise services on the 18th green, not just on Easter Sunday.
In fact, there is a growing number of believers on the P.G.A. Tour. Current and former professionals often share their testimonies in place of a sermon during these services. Former stars like Tom Lehman, Bernard Langer and Payne Stewart have paved the way for the Christian Fellowship which ministers to the road weary members on the P.G.A. Tour, traveling from week to week throughout the United States and oversees.
However, today was a special day as a Christian won his first major tournament, the Masters. Located in Augusta, Georgia, the Majors Tournament is held at Augusta National Golf Club, one of the most aesthetically pleasing and beautiful courses in the world. After winning in a 2 hole sudden death playoff, Bubba Watson was surrounded by several Christian brothers on the P.G.A. Tour. Instead of taking credit for his victory, his Lord Jesus Christ received praise and the glory. As Bubba embraced people like Aaron Baddeley, Rickie Fowler and Ben Crane, the love of Christ was demonstrated for the world to see on CBS.
While many of the clips and Christian references are often cut out by the media, it is refreshing to see a humble believer rewarded for his hard work and dedication. Although there will likely be many more Masters in the future, Jesus remains the master of all. Well done Bubba! Thanks for being a light for Christ in a dark world, Matthew 5:13-16.
