Video of the Day: Clip from the 1993 movie “Grumpy Old Men”
Bible Verse of the Day:
“Listen to me, you descendants of Jacob, all the remnant of the people of Israel, you whom I have upheld since your birth, and have carried since you were born.4 Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you,” Isaiah 46:3-4.
Biblical Connection:
Two men sit in different houses staring out the window. Rather than build up enough courage to act upon their own feelings, two grumpy old men simply wait for another elderly man to do what they were thinking about. Instead of merely reflecting upon life this Thanksgiving, experience the joy of being young again like the elderly man who was rejuvenated in today’s scene.
Today’s passage takes place during Israel’s pending exile in Babylon. God warns the descendants of Jacob of the many idols that Babylonians worship. Idol worship can also be simply replacing God with hobbies that have become more important than your faith. This Thanksgiving don’t let age hinder future aspirations. Instead, place your trust in God to provide as you grow old.
Closing Song:
Just Do It isn’t just a Nike slogan. As Christians begin to dust off idleness by taking a leap of faith, moving closer to God will draw you near the abundant life that Jesus promises in John 10:10.
