Engaging Our Culture: October 11-When Your Dreams Don’t Match Reality

Video of the Day: Clip from the 2019 movie “The Peanut Butter Falcon” (Language Warning)

Bible Verse of the Day:

When Jesus came into Peter’s house, he saw Peter’s mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever. 15 He touched her hand and the fever left her, and she got up and began to wait on him. 16 When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick. 17 This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: “He took up our infirmities and bore our diseases,” Matthew 8:14-17.

Biblical Connection:

Individuals born with Downs Syndrome are viewed by society as special needs. When Zac became an adult, his parents placed him into an assisted living center. After breaking out, Zac longs to follow in his footsteps of his wrestling idol the Salt Water Redneck. When Zac meets up with Tyler, a wayward fisherman, he promises to help his new friend fulfill this unlikely dream.

All it takes is breaking news of hope for the special needs community to become optimistic. When needy first century individuals heard of Jesus’ healing powers, they traveled miles to wait in line. According to Matthew, desperate souls lined up outside of Peter’s house hoping their far-fetched dream would become a reality. Jesus makes this possible once again today.

Closing Song:

In a few days I’ll be sharing about my own dream that was fulfilled in high school. After experiencing the miraculous healing power of Jesus, I know and believe that miracles still occur today.
