During my first semester of teaching in 1993, I kept a journal of what I felt the Lord was teaching me. After a few weeks of reflection, I began to write a series of songs which eventually led to the creation of my first and only album, A Simple Confession. Today, while I was singing a few songs in my head, a new song filled my mind entitled, Help Me Shine.
Below are the lyrics of this song. I hope to make a U-Tube once I finalize the melody.
I’ve lost my way
I can’t explain
Things just aren’t going that well
My future seems bleak
As my hope is fading
I need something to happen today
Chorus:
You shine, like a blazing star above us
Lighting up your path for me to find
You shine, healing and restoring
Opening up the eyes of the blind; help me shine
I see a storm approaching
As dark clouds encompass me
I guess another trial is in store for my family
I am tired and I am broken
From these devastating winds
Another obstacle which has brought me to my knees
Chorus:
You shine, like a blazing star above us
Lighting up your path for me to find
You shine, healing and restoring
Opening up the eyes of the blind; help me shine
Refrain:
The light deep inside is getting dangerously dim
I need God’s grace to lift me above the pit of sin
My vision’s blurred by a cloud of uncertainty
Lord infuse my soul with a spiritual awakening
Chorus:
You shine, like a blazing star above us
Lighting up your path for me to find
You shine, healing and restoring
Opening up the eyes of the blind; help me shine
