Can’t Go Back

As I was worshiping the Lord in church this morning, I heard a few words go through my mind several times.  The message was simple, you can’t go back.  What God was trying to tell me is you can’t go back to your old mindset, Colossians 3:5-7.

Over time complacency tends to set in, causing me to slide back toward the flesh by thinking from a worldly point of view.  I have learned so much from the Holy Spirit over the last 3 years from my weekly Bible Study, personal reading and revelation of a few spiritual gifts I have become aware of in my life.  Therefore, like Jesus said to his disciples in Luke 9:57-62, once you commit yourself to following Jesus, you can’t go back.

Hebrews 12:1 gives a picture of this battle between heavenly thinking and earthly distractions.  On our own or in our own strength, this is impossible.  Although, Jesus left his disciples a spiritual authority in Luke 10:19.  When you believe, claim and pray in the name of Jesus for this authority, nothing will harm you.  As the brother of Jesus once said, submit to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you, James 4:8.  Following these examples will protect you from going back to sin, John 8:11 while leading you closer to the Spirit, Romans 8:9.
